Building the webpage

This was our first deign for the website's splash page we wanted our colour scheme to be simple, we used the same colours as our logo design as we wanted everything to link well together.

Our idea was to make the different colours different sign up options black will be employers, blue will be employees/students and while will be shadowers.

These are the sign up icons we designed, I made the student and the shadower icons.

Designing the Logo

This is the first logo design we came up with, we liked the idea of using the traditional square like seen with Facebook, twitter and flickr, we also wanted to use the chain links idea because our concept is to link employee's to employers and giving students the opportunities to link themselves with business professionals. I think the logo looks professional as the colour scheme suggests that is it a social iterative website. We think this version of our logo will be good to use on the the side of a page or for advertisement purposes. We also looked at other colour schemes to see what worked and didn't work these are some examples..

Although the pink/purple logo still looks clean and professional it doesn't look like a social networking website.

The green version of our logo, gives the sense of a nature website or nature programme for example the national trust logo, green just gives us the initial idea of nature and animals rather than social networking or a professional eduction application.

We also created another version of our logo which we think would be good as a header on our website

& a version for a black background

Research & development

LinkedIn is a social networking site for online professionals, launched in may 2003, it was mainly used for professional networking and Job seekers would be able to review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them along with being able to build there own profile page.

Mandy.com is essentially a 'film/tv production yellow pages' where you can search for producers, technicians etc from all over the world.

After looking into similar applications already out there, we decided we needed to adapt our idea. What we want to do is have the option for employers to post advertisements for jobs, where professionals can apply and also select weather they will be willing to be shadowed, therefore creating two different lists. Therefore we will no be targeting a wider audience not just students.

Moving on to think more into our logo design we wanted to look at more social networking sites...
Similarly to linkedIn all the social networking sites seem to have the letters or words within some sort of box or coloured icon.

We want to create a similar effect using a shade of blue, but also incorporating the chain links we liked.

Logo design

These are some of the logos that we like the idea of, we want to using linking chains as our image, as our concept is about linking students to professionals.

Logo's & new ideas

Searching into Logo Lounge we were able to narrow down the kind of look we wanted to apply to our idea. We came up with at new concept, that business professionals inside or outside of the media industry, using freelance photographers as an example, they would be able to sign up to an interactive application if they were able and willing to have students shadow them and teach individuals on a one to one basis for a day or regally while they are signed up to the site, students who are wanting to shadow professionals in the field they want to dive into after university or college they are able to sign up.

After coming up with this new concept we thought it would be a good idea to use links or chains as our logo design, also using the inspiration we got from logo lounge, using a professional typeface.

Education Applications

We are going to be researching into our main competitors, in order to develop our idea into something unique. Apple Ipad Apps have a variety of education applications which aim to teach all subjects at any grade level, they claim it's a "smart way for classrooms to stay well read", although apple have a range of over 40,000 education apps we are aiming to target a different area, coming up with a new concept to help students and teachers communicate better, one idea being that we will create a button which allows the students to let the teachers know if they are running late and why, creating a safer environment to learn and less confusion if an emergency should occur and a student isn't accounted for.
